The Hellinic Coast Guard was originally established in 1919 and is a para-military organization under the control of the Ministry of Shipping. ITS roles are sea-safety, anti-smuggling, illegal immigration, anti-pollution, law enforcement and SAR duties. The first of class is considered to be a completely different vessel. GRP Hulls moulded by Halmatic at Northam, UK and built by Motomarine as the Lambro/Halmatic 60 between 1997 and 1998. Bases at Piraeus, Syros, Limnos, Chios, Skyros, Leros, Monemvasia, Rhodes, Agios Nikolaos, Katakolon (Heraklion) and Porto Rafti.
