The RNLB Ian and Ann Butler was officially named on 20/10/06 at Poole and her sister RNLB Robert S. Ellsmoor on 10/06/07. Both are painted grey so as not to be confused with operational lifeboats and to give some anonymity whilst training at sea.

Watchful departs her Poole base on a training detail on 13/03/09(Photo N. Rush) Built by Halmatic, Watchful was purchased from the Sussex Sea Fisheries in 2004, she was built in about 1986 and is a Keith Nelson 45. She was taken out of the water in mid 2017 and put up for sale. Noted up for sale agauin in Jan 2019, somewhere in Hampshire. Tyler Boat Company 32 (Nelson 45)
Built by the Tyler Boat Company of Tonbridge, Kent in 1974, it was fitted out at South Boats in Cowes in 2004, it was retired in 2007 and sold out of service in Summer 2008. Prior to RNLI Service she was a private yacht in the Channel Islands. There was a third boat purchased in 2004, Reefer built by Robert ives in 1978, stored at South Boats, it was never refitted or did it enter RNLI Service, it was later sold into private ownership.
