(Click the above logo for the Official RNLI Site) C-Class
In the 1970s the RNLI saw a need for a larger inflatable boat to fit the Stations who were in need of a new vessel between the D-class and the ALB. This resulted in the C-class which came into service in 1972. Using the Zodiac Mk.IV. These boats were initially numbered in the D-500 etc range. This was due to the D-class being numbered from D-1 to 499. The rNLI Were in the process of working out their numbering system and in 1983 the D-numbers were changed to C-numbers. The boats were gradually replaced in the 1980s by the larger Atlantic 21.
Specifications: (Ib1 spec)
The 2nd listing of the C-class is when the rNLI were still trying to work out their numbering system where Bnumbers were used for twin-engined boats. This listing shows what are believed to be prototype Atlantic 21s. But it is not recorded if these are 17 ft boats or 21 ft examples the ex-B number is shown as these vessels ended up being renumbered in the C-range.
